New Beauty Magazine

I spotted a new magazine on the stands a week or so ago and upon flipping through, decided to buy it so I could at least review it for Beauty Squared. I don't buy a lot of beauty magazines anymore, for a few reasons, one being that you can get all the info you could want online and another being that most beauty magazines only feature advertiser's products in their articles. As if the countless pages of ads weren't enough!

New Beauty is $9.95 CDN an issue and is published 4 times a year.  One look at the cover and you can see this magazine looks quite different from most of the beauty magazines on the stands. New Beauty uses many non-studio photos on the cover. My guess is that these are press shots from movie premieres, red carpets, events, etc. The photo of Reese Witherspoon on the cover does not look photoshopped to hell and back like so many fashion and beauty magazines these days. Reese looks like Reese, Heidi looks like Heidi, Jennifer looks like Jennifer and Madonna looks like Madonna.

New Beauty features innovative products and techniques, including cosmetic surgery but also stresses natural ways to look and feel better from the inside out.

I took some photos of some of the pages inside to show you some of the interesting stories New Beauty offers.

Is Your Makeup Aging You?
Is Your Makeup Aging You? shows women with makeup that makes them look older and makeup that makes them look younger, offering tips for products/colours that help to do so. The models include a blonde with a medium complexion, a redhead and a dark-skinned woman. Their ages aren't immediately apparent but it is apparent that one makeup look makes them look older and the other makes them look younger.

The Great Detox Myth
The Great Detox Myth talks about what I've always suspected about the recent trend in detoxing. It doesn't really do anything beneficial and can more likely do harm. {more}

Sleep Drinks
An article on stress-relieving beverages.

Part of the Best of the Best
New Beauty's Best of the Best selections include products you don't often see in advertising or in best of beauty polls in other magazines. That means, most likely, these are good products, not just ones that pay to be called the best!

Five Factors That Can Cause Unhealthy Skin
It's just as much about what happens on the inside as on the outside.

Transform Sun-Damaged Skin
This article explains what happens to your skin when exposed to the sun, products you can use to prevent and repair damage at home and what professional services you can try.

The secrets to long hair.
What to eat, products to use and how to care for your hair if you want it long and healthy.

The Downside of Being Too Thin
Fat is good for you, people. For one thing, it'll keep you looking younger longer!

Which Celebrity Looks Older?
In Which Celebrity Looks Older? New Beauty examines why some celebrities who are the same age can look so different agewise. And look, we're not comparing Vanessa Hudgens with Ashley Tisdale! These are celebrities who are in their 30s, 40s and 50s and still look great!

Shoe Solutions for Longer Legs
Very basic fashion advice for what to wear on your feet to make your legs look longer. And you can actually SEE the difference.

The Best Eyeshadow
MAC is named the best eyeshadow. We all knew that but how many beauty magazines tell you that? Hear hear!

New Beauty does focus a lot on cosmetic chemicals and minor cosmetic surgery which make me a little uneasy, but I know many women aren't so afraid of. NEw Beauty does talk about things you can eat, drink, do and take that can improve your appearance from the inside-out. This is more my beauty philosophy.

The range of products featured is quite dramatic. There are brands I'm familiar with but others I've never heard of before. Some are available only at spas or online. Advertisers are more higher-end and unique brands such as Dr. Brandt, skinstore.com, Jane Iredale, La Bella Donna, Lumene, Kerstin Florian, Moroccan Oil and Restylane.

I am impressed by the scope of this beauty magazine. I'm following them now on Twitter and have liked them on Facebook. I'll definitely be checking out the next issue!

Have you checked out this magazine before? What do you think?
